Tutorial

Purpose and aims

This video tutorial about MRI physics was created by Magritek. Magritek is a science and technology company creating innovative products in the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Please visit their website for more information about the Terranova MRI. The tutorial consists of 11 videos that are categorized by topic. The total running time of the videos is over 60 minutes. The videos start at the very start of MRI principles and gradually becomes more complex. Even when you do know the basics, it is recommended to watch all videos sequentially.

Tutorial details

  • Length: 65 min
  • Difficulty: novice to intermediate

Learning goals

After watching these videos, you can name the fundamentals of magnetic resonance imaging, k-space and image reconstruction.

Precession and Resonance

7 minute introductory video to magnetic spin and resonance.

Spin Echoes, CPMG and T1, T2 relaxation

Three videos. The first is a 10 minute video explaining the concept of a Spin Echo. The second video explains in 6 minutes T1 and T2 Relaxation. Finally, the 3rd video shows in 5 minutes an example of 1D MRI.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

Two videos, each lasting approximately 7 minutes. The concept of Magnetic Resonance Imaging is explained in greater detail. Also the TerraNova MRI is introduced.

K-space

K-space is perhaps one of the most difficult aspects to understand when one is new to MRI. In these 2 videos that last 18 minutes, a clear and complete introductory explanation is given.

Free Induction Decay & Field Homogeneity

Two videos, each lasting approximately 6 minutes. The videos explain how images are obtained using MRI.

2D MRI

Finally, an example of 2D MRI is given in which all previously explained information is integrated. This videos runs for approximately 6 minutes.
